Heritage and Family

Privately owned by the Johnson and Broome families, Rudby Hall is a historic royal residence built in 1838 for the daughter of King William IV, Lady Amelia Cary and her husband the 10th Viscount Falkland, now available to hire on an exclusive basis of the whole estate for your celebrations and events.

History

In 1837 King William IV gifted each of his children £28,500, which prompted Lady Amelia Cary and her husband to commission a beautiful home from renowned architect Anthony Salvin. Originally named Leven Grove after the previous house located on the land, and then Skutterskelfe Hall in the late 19th century, the Grade II* listed stately home was subsequently renamed Rudby Hall in the 1980s.

The hall has enjoyed a colourful history; remaining in the Falkland family for three generations until 1898, it was later a family residence for several distinguished Yorkshire families, billets for soldiers during the Second World War and the headquarters for a leading international chemical company in the 1980s and 1990s.

Ensuring True Luxury

Sandra and Martin Johnson, who bought the stunning Georgian mansion in 2002, have called it home for more than a decade and a half. Although in beautiful condition, the family undertook a meticulous £400,000 conversion in 2014 to restore the original features of the hall and give it a new lease of life as a luxury venue for weddings, events and private hire. The gates were opened to the public for the first time in Rudby Hall’s 180 year history in August 2014 by the Rt Hon William Hague MP.

With a magnificent hospitality background, Sandra as a Purser Officer and Martin a Captain in the Merchant Navy working on luxury five-star cruise ships for more than 25 years, the couple passionately and personally welcome you to enjoy their home. Under their lead, the friendly and knowledgeable team at Rudby Hall offer the highest level of service and attention to detail, ensuring you and your guests can indulge in true luxury.

We would just like to say thank you so much for helping us make our wedding day perfect! Everybody had a fantastic weekend, it was amazing arriving the day before and settling in, having the House to ourselves and enjoying the bridal preparations.
